UEFA president Michel Platini has inaugurated UEFA's new administrative building in Nyon, Switzerland, at a ceremony attended by the presidents and general secretaries of UEFA's 53 member national associations, as well as the UEFA Executive Committee.
The La Clairière building is located opposite the House of European Football in Nyon on the banks of Lake Geneva, and enables UEFA to bring together some of its staff members who have been based at different sites.
Circular in shape, the new four-level building meets high ecological and environmental standards, and will accommodate some 200 members of staff. The foundation stone for the building was laid in January 2009.
Guests were given a tour of the impressive La Clairière installations. UEFA's new building has been designed by the Bassi & Carella architects' firm, and has energy-linked considerations.
The original UEFA headquarters were located in Paris. The European body moved to Nyon in February 1995, after spending 35 years in the Swiss federal capital Berne. The House of European Football was opened in October 1999.
