Hillsborough – 15 April 1989

UEFA President Michel Platini said the families of the 96 people who lost their lives are in the thoughts of the football family on the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough Stadium tragedy.

Twenty-five years ago, on 15 April 1989, 96 people lost their lives in the Hillsborough Stadium tragedy, which occurred at an English FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest FC in Sheffield.

It remains the worst stadium-related disaster in British history, and one of the worst-ever football disasters in the world.

"The thoughts of UEFA and the European football family remain with the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy, 25 years ago," said UEFA President Michel Platini.
