Montenegro named UEFA member

The Football Association of Montenegro has been confirmed as UEFA's 53rd member at the UEFA Congress to the delight of president Dejan Savicevic.

Montenegro was welcomed as UEFA's 53rd member at the 31st UEFA Congress in Dusseldorf today. The congress voted to admit the Football Association of Montenegro (FSCG) following the decision of the Executive Committee to award it provisional membership last year.

Savićević reaction
Football Association of Montenegro president Dejan Savićević, the former AC Milan and Yugoslavia player, expressed his delight when he told uefa.com: "It means a lot to us that we will start playing international matches. We are entering a great house of football and it's a big chance for our young players and for us to represent our country." Montenegro will play their first match as an independent nation on 24 March when they take on Hungary in a friendly in Podgorica.
