UEFA and the European football family are remembering the victims of the tragedy which took place at the Stade Armand-Cesari, also known as the Stade de Furiani, in the Corsican city of Bastia, on 5 May 1992.
A temporary grandstand collapsed at the stadium before the French Cup semi-final between SC Bastia and Olympique de Marseille. Eighteen people lost their lives, and more than 2,000 were injured.
"We still recall this drama today – a drama which left, and which will forever leave its mark on football and on Corsica," said UEFA President Michel Platini in paying tribute to the victims of the disaster.
"It reminds us of our duty to be vigilant, and the absolute priority that safety and security must have for all those who organise matches, in order to protect players and supporters," Mr Platini added.
