The former general secretary of the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Alun Evans has passed away at the age of 69.
Evans became FAW general secretary in 1982 and spent 13 fruitful years in the post until 1995, when he was succeeded by David Collins. "Alun was instrumental in the formation of the League of Wales and was a strong leader of the FAW policies," said the FAW in paying tribute.
A respected football administrator, he was a member of the UEFA committee for the delivery of licences to agents negotiating matches from 1984 to 1996, as well as the group of experts for transfers from 1992 to 1996. Evans was also a member of the Amicale des Anciens circle of former UEFA committee members.
In addition, Alun Evans was League of Wales representative on the FAW council and served as secretary of Welsh club UWIC.
