Appeals Body confirms Rapid Wien punishment

SK Rapid Wien have lost their appeal against the punishment handed down to them following their UEFA Europa League play-off first leg against PAOK FC in Salonika on 23 August.

The UEFA Appeals Body has rejected an appeal lodged by SK Rapid Wien against the punishment handed down by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body last month, following incidents at the UEFA Europa League play-off first leg against Greek opponents PAOK FC in Salonika on 23 August.

The €75,000 fine given to the Austrian club is confirmed, and Rapid must play their next UEFA competition home game behind closed doors. This sanction did not apply to the play-off second leg between Rapid and PAOK in Vienna on 30 August. Rapid won 3-0 to advance to the UEFA Europa League group stage on a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.

Rapid are also disqualified from one (current or future) UEFA competition for which they would normally qualify within the next five years. However, this ban is suspended for a probationary period of three years.
