UEFA has announced today that Modern Times Group has been awarded the broadcast rights for the 2012-15 UEFA Champions League in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The media group operates the Viasat branded platforms and channels in the region.
Modern Times Group has committed to a significant amount of live match programming in the bidding process:
• In Denmark free channel TV3+ will show the first-pick match on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, with comprehensive highlights following the end of those fixtures. The remaining live games will be available to Danish viewers on TV2 Sport as well as Viasat branded channels
• In Norway the Wednesday first-pick match will be showcased on Viasat 4 with the rest of the live games and highlights being broadcast on the Viasat Football and Sport channels. In addition, a wrap-up of the week's UEFA Champions League action will be screened on Wednesday evenings on Viasat 4
• Swedish viewers will be able to follow the first-pick match on Tuesdays as well as Tuesday highlights on free channel TV10 with the other live games and highlights being screened across the Viasat channels. Both the UEFA Champions League final and the UEFA Super Cup will be available live on free channel TV6.
In line with UEFA's platform-neutral approach, the rights will also be exploited on the internet via Modern Times Group's websites and mobile platforms in the various territories.
Commenting on the award of the UEFA Champions League media rights, UEFA said: "UEFA is delighted to announce an extension of its relationship with Modern Times Group in respect of Europe's flagship football competition.
"In each country the comprehensive matchnight coverage, as well as the high level of Viasat's production capability, on-site presence and expert insight from its panel of football presenters, add significant value to the competition coverage for football fans in the region. We are very pleased that the Viasat channels will continue to be the home of the UEFA Champions League throughout the 2012-15 rights cycle."
