UEFA will launch disciplinary proceedings into events at this week's UEFA Champions League match between Besiktas JK and Chelsea FC in Gelsenkirchen, focusing on the behaviour of the Besiktas fans.
After receiving both the referee and delegate's reports of the match, which Chelsea won 2-0, UEFA confirmed that supporters of the Turkish club will be charged with improper conduct, the setting-off of flares and missile-throwing.
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will discuss the case at its next hearing on 21 February 2004. The rearranged Group G fixture was played at the Arena Aufschalke in Germany on Tuesday 9 December because of security concerns following recent events in Turkey.
