Start of UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League media and sponsorship rights sales for 2015-18 cycle

UEFA today announced the launch of the sale of media and sponsorship rights of the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Europa League for the 2015-18 rights cycle following the recent approval of a new commercial concept by the UEFA Executive Committee.

The media and sponsorship rights strategy continues to reflect the premium positioning of the UEFA Champions League as the best club football competition in the world and the growth of the UEFA Europa League in profile and recognition.

The format of the UEFA Champions League – UEFA’s flagship club competition – will remain unchanged from the 2012-15 rights cycle. The European club football season will kick off with play-offs in August followed by the group stage taking place before the winter break. The knockout phase from February to May will again provide great excitement to viewers culminating with the UEFA Champions League Final whose estimated global unique reach last season was over 360 million viewers. The UEFA Super Cup – the single match in which the respective winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League face off against each other – will also be included in the rights packages for 2015, 2016 and 2017.

While the competition format of the UEFA Europa League will remain the same, several new enhancements are being made with the aim of positively increasing the appeal of the competition for clubs, fans and viewers alike. These include the UEFA Europa League winners gaining direct access to the subsequent season’s UEFA Champions League, the increase in the number of teams directly qualified for the group stage from six to 16, and the full centralisation of commercial rights from the start of the season.

The worldwide sales of all UEFA club competition rights will be carried out by TEAM Marketing on UEFA’s behalf, continuing its long-term partnership with UEFA as its exclusive marketing agency for the exploitation of certain media and sponsorship rights relating to the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Europa League. The media rights will be sold on a market-by-market basis through a staggered sales process commencing in the Middle East and North Africa region with the invitation to submit offers being made available to interested parties on Thursday, 20 June 2013.
