UEFA Youth League promotes respect

The UEFA Youth League continues to promote development of players on the pitch and also off it, thanks to a series of educational initiatives around the competition.

As well as a stage for young players to develop and flourish, the UEFA Youth League is also an essential platform for messages of respect and education.

How is the 'RESPECT' theme integrated into the UEFA Youth League?

  • Players and referees take a group photo at every match in the competition to signify their unity in promoting diversity in football and opposing racism and discrimination.
  • Teams, referees and officials get together for a 'third period' after each match, to exchange experiences and promote respect between the clubs and players.
  • Players undertake an educational programme including sessions on match-fixing prevention and anti-doping messages.

The inside view
"The educational programme of the UEFA Youth League was delivered by Peter McLaughlin from the Scottish Football Association on behalf of UEFA. The presentation was insightful; it raised awareness of match-fixing, with guidance given on how to recognise, reject and report all activities to the relevant authorities. Celtic FC found this presentation on integrity to be very beneficial for all our players and staff."
