UEFA and its UEFA EURO 2004™ partners have pledged to make the final round of Europe's top national team tournament in two years' time the best ever.

European football's governing body has this week held two days of talks with all of its commercial partners for EURO 2004™, as well as its television partner, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), with television and marketing aspects of the final round in Portugal top of the agenda.
The workshop has seen UEFA and its partners for the 2004 tournament, together with representatives of the host national association, the Portuguese Football Federation, and EURO 2004, S.A., the body responsible for organising the tournament, join together for the first time, as a means of strengthening the close mutual relations that will be developed in the run-up to and during the event.
Nothing beats a national team tournament when it comes to generating interest," UEFA director of professional football and marketing Lars-Christer Olsson told the workshop. "EURO is a great event, and the passion generated in the nations is intense. The European Championship is one of UEFA's cornerstones.
"You, as our partners, are our engine to communicate not only in Europe but all over the world, to bring the information around the competition to all your customers," he added. "This is of great value to UEFA to be able to communicate with everybody. The networks that you are making available for us are absolutely essential for the success of the tournament. We hope that the networks that we are offering you will have a similar effect on your activities."
Experience and knowledge
Mr Olsson told UEFA's partners that the experience and knowledge that both UEFA and its partners would bring to Portugal would serve the country well even after the final round, because new infrastructures would be in place for the future.
EURO 2004, S.A. board member Ãngelo Brou said that the workshop would help create a better understanding of the partnership between the various parties involved in the tournament. "The organisation of a European football championship is a very demanding project.
Without our partners, it will be very difficult to organise the event with such an impact," he added.
