Ravelli became the then most-capped European footballer when he collected 143 caps between 1981 and 1997. His father was an Austrian who emigrated to Sweden where Thomas and twin brother Andreas - also a Swedish international, as a midfield player - were born. Ravelli, Sweden's Footballer of the Year in 1981, was voted one of the top goalkeepers at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in United States, where Sweden finished third, undoubtedly the high point of his international career.
