Top European national-team coaches have joined football stars in giving the thumbs-up to the new Eat for Goals! book for youngsters launched by UEFA, the World Heart Federation and the European Commission.
Coaches such as Fabio Capello (England), Vincent Del Bosque (Spain), Guus Hiddink (Russia), Otto Rehhagel (Greece) and Fatih Terim (Turkey), and French Football Federation technical director Gérard Houllier were interested readers of the book - in which a host of star players give recipes for their favourite dishes - at last week's UEFA Conference for European national Coaches in Vienna
Thirteen football stars have contributed to the book - in order of chapters, Abbas Suwan, Barry Ferguson, Birgit Prinz, Carles Puyol, Cathrine Paaske Sørensen, Fabio Cannavaro, Heurelho Gomes, Kelly Smith, Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Steven Gerrard and Thierry Henry.
Through the active support of Eat for Goals! UEFA, the World Heart Federation and the European Commission are focusing attention on obesity, one of the major public health issues of the 21st century. "The world of football has long inspired people of any age and gender to exercise. It has now set out to inspire them to eat well too," said William Gaillard, UEFA director of communications.
