UEFA hosts sports management seminar

The House of European Football in Nyon played host to a group of former professional football, handball, volleyball, basketball and rugby players who are studying with the French-based Centre de Droit et d'Economie du Sport.

Many former professional sportsmen move into careers in sports management when their playing days come to an end – and UEFA is committed to helping them in their studies and preparation.

Playing host
This week, the House of European Football in Nyon has been playing host to a group of former professional football, handball, volleyball, basketball and rugby players who are studying with the French-based Centre de Droit et d'Economie du Sport.

Sports studies
The centre, based in Limoges, has been in operation since 1978, and offers university-style sports studies, through a variety of courses in areas such as law, economy and sports management. Nyon was the setting for a three-day seminar held as part of the Masters course for future general managers of professional sports clubs, which is open to former sportsmen or professional coaches. Course participants study in 14 seminars over a two-year period.

Sports events
Course topics included the particular nature of professional sport's economic sector, professional clubs' adaptation to the modern economic and sports environment in terms of their development and policies, and how to manage and organise sports events with all their various facets – administrative, logistical, juridical, security and commercial. The agenda on the final day of the course looked in particular at stadium security, with special focus on match organisation at UEFA Champions League and French top-flight games.
