What they said

It was an extraordinary year for us. We'd wanted that trophy for so long and to play at Wembley was fantastic. I think Bayern deserved to win the cup after such a long time. It's always nice to win this trophy, and I think it's a special moment for me to be here this evening. I want to thank all my team-mates and the directors at Bayern, and the supporters. We've had a fantastic year, and a big hello to all my family, my children and my wife.
Franck Ribéry
He had a great season in a team which worked very well, a collective way of play. He has been decisive and scored important goals, together with crucial assists. He helped his club play well, performed consistently well throughout the season, was worthy of this award.
Pierre Maturana (So Foot, France)
He won three titles last season and was the dominant player in Germany. His displays were of a constantly high level on both the domestic and international scene, and his name was spoken of throughout the season.
Rainer Franzke (Kicker, Germany)
I voted for him because I like players who give everything on the pitch and Ribéry is one of them. He gives his best in every match, he sweats on the pitch every game, and I think it's right that the winner is a Bayern player, because he contributed to the club winning the Champions League last season.
Alexander Bobrov (Sport Express, Russia)
It was an honour to be in this race again, and among the best three players in Europe. There are so many great players in the world, and it is a pure joy to be here, but he deserved to win the trophy.
Lionel Messi (runner-up and 2011 winner)
