Candidates for election at UEFA Congress listed

The UEFA Executive Committee was informed that 13 candidates are on the list standing for election to the committee at the XXXV Ordinary UEFA Congress in Paris in March.

The UEFA Executive Committee was today informed of the list of candidates standing for election at the XXXV Ordinary UEFA Congress in March 2011 in Paris, France. The closing date for applications was set for 22 January – two months prior to the staging of the Congress – in accordance with the Statutes of UEFA.

A total of 13 representatives from UEFA's national associations have submitted their candidature for election for the seven available seats on the UEFA Executive Committee for the four-year period 2011-2015.

The terms of office of the following seven members of the UEFA Executive Committee are expiring in 2011 – Şenes Erzik (Turkey), Gilberto Madaíl (Portugal), Joseph Mifsud (Malta), Mircea Sandu (Romania), Grigoriy Surkis (Ukraine), Liutauras Varanavičius (Lithuania), Ángel María Villar Llona (Spain).

Six of the Executive Committee members whose period in office is expiring, are standing for re-election. They are: Şenes Erzik (Turkey), Gilberto Madaíl (Portugal), Mircea Sandu (Romania), Grigoriy Surkis (Ukraine), Liutauras Varanavičius (Lithuania), Ángel María Villar Llona (Spain).

Completing the list of 13 candidates are: François De Keersmacker (Belgium), Norman Darmanin Demajo (Malta), Sergey Fursenko (Russia), Peter Gilliéron (Switzerland) Ivan Hašek (Czech Republic), Grzegorz Lato (Poland), Borislav Mihaylov (Bulgaria).

The elections will take place at the XXXV Ordinary UEFA Congress, to be held at Le Grand Palais in Paris, France, on 22 March.

In addition, the terms of office of three European members of the FIFA Executive Committee – those of Michel Platini (France), Ángel María Villar Llona (Spain) and Franz Beckenbauer (Germany) – will end at the FIFA Congress, to be held from 31 May to 1 June 2011 in Zurich.

Ángel María Villar Llona (Spain) is seeking a further mandate as FIFA vice-president, while Theo Zwanziger (Germany) is standing for election as FIFA Executive Committee member. The UEFA president becomes ex-officio a FIFA vice-president. All mandates are for four-year terms.
